John Rash

Meet John Rash, founder of the Southern Punk Archive in the Southern Documentary Project at the University of Mississippi. He will tell us about how he preserves the history of underground music communities in the American South. John views punk as a modern form of folk music and creates documentaries about regional bands and their stories. Through initiatives like punk flea markets, he creates spaces that bridge the gap between his archival work and a broad community of artists, filmmakers, and the LGBTQ community. Rash says punk serves as a safe haven for queer and trans people, especially in rural areas where alternative social hubs are so scarce.
